These ads make it is easy to get caught up in the commercialism behind Father’s Day, so we are here to remind you that this special occasion is about much more than gifts and expensive days out. You could have a great Father’s Day without breaking the bank.

We understand that for those who have are currently struggling financially, Father’s Day can be difficult. We tend to buy gifts or pay for lavish days out to show the fathers in our lives how much we love them, as for whatever reason a card never quite seems to show our appreciation well enough.

If you are financially struggling at the moment, you’re likely to be questioning if you really need to spend money this Father’s Day, to answer your question simply;

You do not need to spend anything.

You should only spend what you can afford, and if that is nothing, then that is perfectly acceptable.

You do not need to spend money to show you care

When money is tight it is likely that the thought of buying gifts is stressful. If this is the case, you should consider how much the fathers in your life would really care if they did not receive anything materialistic from you this year. If you cannot afford to do anything, or purchase a gift, just be honest. The people in your life love you and would not want you to put yourself under financial pressure.

There are lots of things you can do to make Father’s Day special without spending. Here are some ideas:

01. Enjoy the outdoors

Head to a local park, or beach, to spend some quality time! If your spending time with the people you love, its certain to be a great Father’s Day.

02. Cook a meal with your dad

Using what you already have in your kitchen, get the entire family involved in cooking dinner. Assign younger children with the simpler tasks like setting the table, so that they also feel involved. For that celebratory vibe, turn on the dad’s favourite music and play it loud for a sing-a-long.

03. Give Dad some alone time

Whether it’s going to the gym, taking a nap, or reading the newspaper, sometimes fathers need some time to themselves. After all, it is Father’s Day, so let him choose what he wants to do!

04. Watch sports with your dad

According to MuchNeeded, 32% of people who celebrated Father’s Day last year did so by watching sports. If the fathers in your life are big sports fans, this is an excellent idea! Pop the TV on and enjoy.

At the end of the day, creating memories with your loved ones is the best gift you can give.
